To pay for his studies at the Beaux-Arts in Milan, the young man worked as an illustrator and then as an assistant to Gianni Versace.
In 1983, he launched his first eponymous collection, which was an immediate success.
The designer never stopped parodying couture, mixing prints and distorting the symbols of pop culture.
